Mad Sven

This body of work revolves around ideas like companionship, trust, friendship, love, and belonging.

Mad Sven started with one drawing and after that one, it made sense to continue working on the character. It started building up. One layer and then another. And all of them bringing something new, I guess.

There is a deep respect for difference. I see richness in it. Difference makes us more interesting, more resilient, more complete. The layers intertwine. But individuality does not get lost. In fact, it stands out through difference. A bear, a boy, and a dog are far apart on many levels: shape and biology, instinct, the way they negotiate their surroundings, and how they interact with the world. And yet, somehow, these three, to me, seem destined for each other. Their differences become strengths, forming a subtle but enduring balance.

Together, they create something larger than themselves — a shifting constellation of personalities, a fluid pattern held together by affection, loyalty, and mutual care.

Yet there is also a melancholy running through these drawings, and I am not entirely sure where it comes from. It feels as though a fate has already been written somewhere beyond the edge of the story. There is a quiet tension beneath the surface, a strange mix of serenity and sadness.

Perhaps it comes from the awareness that everything is temporary. That one day, loss, change, and death will arrive, as they always do. But until then, there is music to play and life to be lived as fully as possible.
